Week 7 CARRY THE BANNER By Sandra Clifton, D.Min. Begin
your study by reading “Carry the Banner” by Cheryl Grayson (SpiritLed Woman magazine, Oct/ Nov 2006). Introduction
What with so many varying
beliefs surrounding us (and threatening to overshadow our own) in this nation,
it is time to not only get firm in what we believe in Christ, but to get firm
in our boldness to stand up for Him! God’s Word will help and show us how to do
that boldly and with confidence. What
God Says
Read Is. 9:6. Write it out.
Deeper
Insight
Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version, as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Write what you think is the bold announcement each passage has to say about Christ or your role as a bold believer. Is. 9:6:__________________________________________________________ Matt. 5:37:_______________________________________________________ Matt. 16:19:______________________________________________________ Eph. 6:14:________________________________________________________ Application Below are Scripture listings. They
match the themes listed below them (of course they are out of order and it is
up to you to find which listing matches the paraphrased theme). Place the
Scripture listing onto the blank next to the theme. Look up the Scriptures and
see how well you did! Write them down
and memorize the whole Scriptures, as well as the themes for each so that you
will know what they mean and can recall them when ministering boldness in the
faith to others. Is. 9:6 Matt. 5:37 Matt. 16:19 Eph. 6: 14 _____Your ‘yes’ should be ‘yes’ and
your ‘no’ should be ‘no. _____He has given to us the keys of the kingdom—and we are to bind
and to loose. _____Stand having girded your waist
with truth and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. ____Unto us a Child has been born.
. . .a Son given. . . For Group Study Begin your group time by
reading aloud Matt. 5:37, and discuss its significance. Have members of the
group share how doing the opposite of this verse can get messy in your walk as
a Christian believer. Also discuss how this verse relates to integrity and how
it relates to boldness and how it relates to confidence. Discuss each one
separately. Encourage testimonies.
Close
the group session in prayer, asking the Lord to make each one bold in the
faith, to be more effective witnesses for Christ. In corporate prayer as a
group, repent if any have not stood with boldness or integrity (speaking out)
for Christ. Vow to start doing so and thank the Lord for empowering the group
to do so! Prayer
Memorize Matt. 6:14. Read it at the beginning of your prayer and then thank the Lord that you are standing firmly and strongly in your faith—as a confident, righteous and bold witness for Him! Ask Him to show you ways in which this can be done and thank Him for His presence and empowerment wherever you go through your day. |
