Week 9 TRUE FAITH LOOKS TO
GOD (Part 2) By Sandra Clifton, D.Min. Begin your study by reading “True Faith
Looks to God” by William Wilberforce (SpiritLed
Woman magazine, Feb/Mar 2007). Introduction
Where
are you “gazing” these days? In his book Real Christianity, William
Wilberforce has suggested that we “fix our gaze upon Jesus” developing a faith
that is powerfully strong and not rocked by the world. God’s Word can help us
fix our eyes on Jesus and to walk in a true faith that will sustain us and give
us the victory in Christ. What God Says
Read John 13:34. Write it out.
Deeper Insight
Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version, as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Each Scripture teaches something about our faith in Christ. Make a note of what each has to say. John 13:34: ______________________________________________________ 1 John 4:7-8: ____________________________________________________ Heb. 7:25: _______________________________________________________ Rev. 7:10: ______________________________________________________ Application Below are 3 Scripture listings
followed by “lessons” in the faith (some quotes, others paraphrased). These are
taken from the previous “Deeper Insight” section (NKJV). Match the listings with
the lessons. Look up the Scripture listings to see how you did. Memorize the
Scriptures, getting God’s Word in you. This will give you stronger faith. 4 LISTINGS: John 13: 34 1 John 4: 8 Rev. 7:10 _____Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne,
and to the Lam! _____Love one another _____God is love For Group Study Begin
your group time by reading aloud 1 John 4: 8. Encourage members to share how
they have loved others through Christ, when it wasn’t so easy!
Close the group session in prayer,
thanking the Lord for His unconditional love. Prayer
Memorize
John 13:34. Read it aloud as part of your prayer. Ask the Lord to give you a
sense of His love towards others—a love that goes beyond your own personal
feelings. Ask Him to show you daily ways in which to show His love to others.
Thank Him for His ever-abiding presence that will show His love to others
wherever you go. |
