SPRING CLEANING FOR YOUR FINANCES (Part 1)

By Sandra Clifton, D.Min.

Begin your study by reading “Spring Cleaning for Your Finances” by Catherine Eagan (SpiritLed Woman magazine, April/May 2007).

Introduction

How are things on the home front financially? How would you like to go from merely “surviving” to “thriving”? You can! God’s Word will show you how to become a wise steward of your money and finances. And it will show you how to prosper!

What God Says

Read: Deut. 8:18.

Write it out. Think on what that means and how it might apply to you and your life.

Deeper Insight

Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version), as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Make brief notes of what God’s Word says in these passages about finances in general.

Prov. 27:23-24: ___________________________________________________

Matt. 6:33: _______________________________________________________

Luke 19:17: ______________________________________________________

Application

Below are three Scriptures (NKJV) taken from the previous Deeper Insight section. After each one, in the spaces provided, write down what you feel God is telling you about your personal financials. Write down each verse on a 3x5 card and memorize them, as powerful reminders in your day that God is over your finances!

Prov. 27: 23: “Be diligent to know the state of your flocks. And attend to your herds; for riches are not forever. . . .”

Matt. 6:33: “ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Luke 19:17: “And He said to him, “Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in very little, have authority over ten cities.”

For Group Study

Begin your group time by reading aloud Matt. 6:33. Go around the group and have each one share what this passage of Scripture means to them. Then share testimonies of how when they put God and His kingdom first, truly “all these things” were added to their lives—that they were blessed!

End the meeting by taking prayer requests, and then pray that the Lord will help everyone present to put Him first and that everyone will see just how He will meet every need in their lives, turning around things for some who are expecting a miracle!

Prayer

Memorize Matt. 6:33. Read it as part of your prayer. Ask the Lord to help you seek His kingdom first over all things. Thank Him that all of your concerns, needs, and prayers will be met, as you seek His kingdom first!
