The Power of a Mother’s Example (Part 2)

By Sandra Clifton, D.Min.

Begin your study by reading “The Power of a Mother’s Example” by Carolyn Custis James (SpiritLed Woman magazine, June/July, 2006).

Introduction

You are never helpless or alone. Despite how difficult and overwhelming circumstances become, there is something you can always do—and that is pray! Prayer is power, for it moves heaven. Prayer is your very pipeline to God Almighty! God’s Word shows you example after example how this is so.

What God Says

Read Ps. 34:4.

Write it out and contemplate on what God might be telling you related to a worry or concern in your life.

Deeper Insight

Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version, as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Make brief notes of how each passage reveals the supreme power of God, and how it is available to you 24/7.

Ps. 34:4: ______________________________________________________

Ps. 46:1-3: ______________________________________________________

Jer. 33:3: ______________________________________________________

Matt. 7:11: _______________________________________________________

Application

Each of the Scriptures below are taken from the previous section (Deeper Insight). They contain a central theme about a loving God who is there for you.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Fill in each blank next to the Scripture listing, by putting the letter that belongs to the theme which you feel belongs to it. Careful!—there are more themes than listings!.

Next look up the listings and see if there are any matches. Memorize the Scriptures, not only to get them “in” you but to bring them “with you” when you minister hope to those who need it!

PARAPHRASED THEMES (match the ones that fit with listings below):

a. seeking the Lord and Him delivering me from all my fears

b. the Lord our refuge and help

c. calling on God and Him showing us great and mighty things that we do not know

d. how much more does your Father want to give good things to those who ask Him

e. if we ask, we will receive

f. the Lord is our Shepherd

g. fear not, neither be afraid

________ Ps. 46:1

________Ps. 34:4

________Matt. 7:11

_________Jer. 33:3

For Group Study

Begin your group time by reading aloud Jer. 33:3, and then discuss what exactly it means and how it each group member has experienced it in her life. You might want to go around the circle, each sharing.

Close with prayer, thanking the Lord for being there and being so faithful each time we call upon Him.

Prayer

Memorize Jer. 33:3, and pray thanks to the Lord that as you call upon Him, He will show you great and mighty things that you did not know. Thank Him also that each time you seek Him, you will find Him and the help you need.
