Week 3

The Root of Unbelief (Part 1)

By Sandra Clifton, D.Min.

Begin your study by reading “The Root of Unbelief” by John L. and Paula Sandford (SpiritLed Woman magazine June/July 2007).

Introduction

Of course you believe in God, but how much stock do you place in His promises for your life? Do you really believe—and not doubt—that He can and will answer your prayers? His Word gives you exciting promises that He truly hears your prayers and answers them! So why not stop doubting and begin believing His promises for you, starting this week?

What God Says

Read Rom. 10:10.

Write it out. Be encouraged!

Deeper Insight

Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version, as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Make brief notes of what God is saying to you to believe in Him and His powerful promises through His Word, to bless you and answer your prayers!

Rom. 10:10: ______________________________________________________

Heb. 4:12: _______________________________________________________

Heb. 10:14: ______________________________________________________

1 Pet. 2:9: _______________________________________________________

Application

Below are three scripture listings, taken from the previous Deeper Insight section (drawn from NKJV). See if you can either write them out from memory or write the theme that each conveys. Then them up and see how you did.

Memorize all listings, word for word. This will get the promises of God inside you, to help you replace doubt and unbelief with belief in a great God with great blessings for you (and for others, as you share His promises)!

Rom. 10: 10:

Heb. 4:12:

1 Pet. 2:9:

For Group Study

Begin your group time by reading aloud Rom. 10:10, and then discuss what it means in various real life circumstances (that perhaps the group members have gone through or can think of that others might be going through).

Discuss ways in which it might be possible to minister to people going through various challenges and struggles of life, referring to this scripture, to help them. Encourage testimonies from group members, where this scripture has helped give strength or has inspired any group members, while facing a life challenge.

Close the group session in prayer, thanking God for helping each group member and their family members to overcome doubt with faith and belief in a great God who meets their every need daily!

Prayer

Memorize Rom. 10: 10, and read it aloud as part of your prayer. Thank the Lord that you believe—and don’t doubt—His powerful promises to give you life and life more abundantly, daily!
