WEEK 6
EMOTIONS CAN DERAIL YOUR FINANCES–(Part 2)
By Sandra Clifton, D.Min.
Begin your study by reading “Emotions
Can Derail Your Finances” by Deborah Smith Pegues (SpiritLed Woman magazine, Aug/Sept 2007).
Introduction
What do you spend your money on? On the
extras, are you led by your emotions? Nothing wrong with treating yourself to
special occasions and celebrations, but ask yourself if you are a wise steward
of your money. If you need guidance on how to manage your money, turn to God’s
Word. His Word will truly give you wisdom and balance in your spending and the
management of finances!
What
God Says
Read Isa. 26:3.
Write it out.
Deeper
Insight
Read the following Scriptures (in New King James Version,
as the exercises to follow will be based on that). Make brief notes of how each passage conveys a message of
trusting in the Lord for wisdom regarding your finances.
Is. 26:3: _____________________________________________________
Ps. 28:7: _____________________________________________________
Ps. 86:11: ______________________________________________________
Application
Fill in the blanks of the
Scriptures (or portions of Scriptures) below (which are in NKJV), taken from
the previous Deeper Insight section. Afterward, check to see how you did by looking
up the Scriptures. Put them on 3x5 cards or enter them into your computer
(perhaps as a screen saver). Let God’s wisdom get in you and be part of your
daily life. Share God’s wisdom from His Word with others—blessing their
finances, as well!
Is. 26:3: “____ will keep him in perfect _____, whose
______ is ________ on You, because he _____ in You. “
Ps. 28:7: “The ______ is my strength and my _____; my
heart _______ in Him, and I am _______; therefore my _____ greatly ______, and
with my song I will ____ Him.”
Ps. 86: 11: “Teach me Your ____, O Lord; I will ____ in
Your _____; unite my ____ to ____ Your name.”
For Group Study
Begin
your group time by reading aloud Ps. 28:7. Discuss and share the importance of
this Scripture and how it might help people in various challenging
circumstances. Ask members to name a variety of situations this Scripture might
help someone. Encourage testimonies of those who have found great help or peace
from this Scripture.
Close the
meeting with prayer, thanking the Lord for His wisdom and guidance for the
members of the group and their families to live their lives in a godly way,
including the managing of their finances.
Prayer
Memorize Ps. 28:7. Read it
aloud as part of your prayer, and thank the Lord for His ever-abiding presence
in your life, helping you in all areas. Thank Him, as well, for His helping you
to be a wise steward over your finances. Give praise to Him that He is blessing
your finances and that you are managing them in the best and most godly of
ways!
