Shouldn't Pentecostals Celebrate Pentecost Sunday?

We all know Jesus ascended into heaven 40 days after Easter Sunday, the day of His resurrection. After the disciples tarried for 10 days the Holy Spirit fell; that was the birth of the church. They all spoke with other tongues according to Acts 2:4. So when the Holy Spirit fell the new movement was called “Pentecostal” after the Day of Pentecost.

When Pentecost Sunday rolls around on May 27 this year, it will be celebrated in Catholic and liturgical churches because it’s part of their church calendars, but few Pentecostals will celebrate it. I’ve never understood why. Maybe it’s our revivalist tradition that came from the “sawdust trail” where anything that hinted of formal religion was thrown out.

Exciting Growth at Expolit

stevemarcusnewDuring a time of enormous change in the media world, one segment of the Christian publishing industry seems alive and well: the Spanish publishing market.

At least that's my impression after returning from Expolit, which is the Spanish publishing trade show. For the past 20 years it has been held in Miami; and this year attendance was up 20 percent over last year.  For me, it was great to celebrate the 15th anniversary of our Casa Creacion book imprint with a special service featuring Iris Delgado, author of Satan, You Can't Have My Marriage.  Her book in English Satan, You Can't Have My Children was originally published in Spanish. The English version has taken off and sold more than 100,000 copies in less than a year.  It's an indication to me that the Spanish segment of the church is increasingly influencing the wider church.  Read our news story here about Expolit.

Watch 'Jim Bakker Show' to Learn Prophecy Behind 'The Harbinger'

StrangCahn

Jim Bakker believes The Harbinger is one of the most important books he's ever read because of its prophetic insights. The book highlights how God dealt with Israel when the people rejected Him, and how the same warnings in Isaiah 9:10 still apply today.

Bakker is featuring Cahn on his national television show all this week. He invited us on the show at their new facility called Morningside outside Branson, Mo.

Thanking God for the Legacy of Robert Walker

Robert_Walker_Steve_StrangRobert Walker was born 100 years ago today, April 30. He was my friend and mentor. I consider him a great man and this is my way to honor his memory and to thank God for his life.

Robert Walker founded Christian Bookseller magazine, Creation House, Christian Life Missions, and Christian Life magazine, which merged with Charisma in 1987. I have continued his publishing legacy. I wrote articles in Charisma and Christian Retailing, and have arranged for a reception in his honor as part of the regular Christian Life Missions board meeting. I hope you'll read on about this great man who inspired so many.
